Getting Here
The Carnival takes place across Dumfries town centre, a short walk from the railway station and central bus stops. Regional buses and trains run throughout the weekend, with extra evening services on parade night.
Town centre car parks are within a few minutes’ walk. Roads around the parade route close from mid-afternoon on Saturday 30 January, so plan to arrive early and leave the car outside the core if you can.
Accessibility
The Carnival site is step-free throughout, with accessible toilets and dedicated viewing areas along the parade route. BSL interpreters are provided at key stage moments.

Food & Drink
The Winter Village brings together street food traders, hot drinks and a licensed bar in the heart of town. Expect everything from wood-fired flavours to sweet treats to keep you fuelled through the night.

What to Wear
This is an outdoor event in the depth of a Scottish winter, so wrap up warm. Bring a proper coat, hat, gloves and sturdy waterproof footwear — you’ll be on your feet and outdoors for the evening.

Is the Carnival free?
Yes. Entry to the Carnival and parade is completely free. Some Winter Village food, drink and market stalls are pay-as-you-go.
What time does the parade start?
The Carnival Parade steps off at 5pm on Saturday 30 January. Arrive early to find a good spot along the route.
Is it suitable for children?

Getting Here
Dumfries town centre is easily reached by bus, train, car or on foot. Dumfries Railway Station is around a 10-minute walk from the Carnival.

Carnival Parade
The main Carnival Parade takes place at 5pm on Saturday 30 January, bringing thousands of performers, schools and community groups through the heart of Dumfries.
Check the Parade Map for the route and viewing locations. The Parade will also be streamed live and available to watch afterwards.
